When is the best time of year to cut hedges?
For most species, late summer through to mid-autumn (August to October) is ideal — after the main growing season but before the first hard frosts. This gives hedges a clean finish going into winter. Some fast-growing species like privet and leylandii benefit from a second cut in early summer. We’ll advise on the best timing for your specific hedge when we quote.
Do you take the hedge cuttings away?
Yes. All cuttings are collected and removed from your property at the end of the job as standard. We don’t leave bags at the kerbside or ask you to arrange collection. This is included in the price we quote, so there are no surprises.
Can you cut a very overgrown hedge?
Yes, though very overgrown hedges sometimes need a different approach. For hedges that have grown significantly out of shape, we may recommend a phased cut over two visits; one to reduce the bulk, and a second to finish and shape, particularly with species that can be stressed by hard cutting. We’ll discuss this with you before starting and won’t take anything back further than is healthy for the plant.
